This was our first year waking up in our very own home on Christmas morning and it was all kinds of wonderful. Ruby slept in really late, we snuggled in bed, made coffee and cinnamon rolls and made our way to the living room for our little Christmas. We often still have our own family Christmas on a different day and it’s still just as sweet, but it felt extra special this year on Christmas Day.
Since we’ve been married we have always lived away from family and make the drive to see each of our families. It can make the holidays stressful traveling so much and never being able to make it to every family Christmas party. While we love being with all of our family on the holidays and it’s hard letting people down, we’ve been better at prioritizing our little family first. And this year that meant staying home and getting lucky that Jordan had Christmas Day off of work. I’m thankful that my family was still able to come out later this day to celebrate with us as well. And we will be heading out later today to spend some time with Jordan’s family. And then, even more celebrations afterward with my brother and his wife. We’re learning more every year how best to celebrate and find meaning during this season.
I didn’t’ realize this was a common tradition for other people too, making cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. I checked instagram and everyone was also enjoying some yummy cinnamon rolls as well. It instantly made me feel connected and maybe we are making some solid tradition choices. And look at Ruby, I think it’s safe to say she enjoyed her breakfast.
Jordan came up with a fun way to do stockings this year. He had a list of old testament passages that we took turns reading. After reading we would grab a gift out of the stockings.
Ruby had more gifts than we had bible passages, so she eventually got the entire stocking to go through.
In my stocking Jordan place a little note for me to check out the inside of my favorite record. Inside my Lumineers album was a concert date that we’re going to go to. Such a sweet surprise.
I love that Jordan goes out and adds in his own gifts. He got Ruby thsoe hedgehog socks for her stocking and she put them on immediately.
We’ve been shopping mostly at Aldi or Target this year and didn’t have an brown paper bags, so instead of my normal brown paper packages, I used up the rest of our white tissue paper and found some pretty gold and white paper at Homegoods. I love how clean and simple they looked under the tree.
Ruby still has a couple gifts still wrapped under the tree. I think she was actually better at unwrapping last year, because this year she was more interested in what she got than opening the next present. So, we let her play with her gifts and have been letting her open a random gift here and there.
Jordan and I already got our gifts this year. I got my new camera which spanned my birthday, our anniversary, and now christmas. But, Jordan was sweet and still wrapped up a gift for me, this yellow hat. Ruby thought it was for her…
I included my favorites in this post, but if you’re interested in seeing all of the photos I place the rest of them below. If you click on one you can see them all bigger.
I hope you had a merry christmas as well! We’re excited that it’s still not over and we get to continue celebrating the next couple of weekends. 🙂 We’re coming for you Fort Wayne!
