This week has me all excited for Christmas and I’m in the gift giving mood already. So much so, that I put together this gift guide for the little ones in your life. I broke it down into a few different stages to help make it easier.
It was fun to think back to Ruby’s favorite things and what she’s gotten over the past. I reined it in more than usual and only shared the best ones. Enjoy!
for the itty bitty babies | newborn
For the littlest of babies, the necessities are what matters, and some simple toys. If you have a very little baby over Christmas, clothes, shoes, books and rattles will be the best gifts.
Ruby loved this clutching rattle and soft books. We got her a state rattle, which we also gifted for my newborn nephew last year, personalized with his name.
For Ruby’s first Christmas (when she was in the womb) we got her this Milkbarn newborn gown and a pair of Freshly Picked mocassins
gift ideas for the babies | 6-12 months
This stage is hard to pin down what your baby might like, as their abilities can change by the minute. We found it was best to get the essential toys and to gift some bigger items they may play with later. Ruby was this age
Last year when Ruby was 7 months over Christmas, we got her a basketball hoop, a play kitchen with pots and pans, and a pair of Freshly Picked mocassins. These gifts were mostly intended for later since she didn’t need any more toys for this stage.
At this age Ruby loved stacking things, knocking down towers, and reading. Oh, and patting her baby on the back.
gift ideas for the early toddler | 12-24 months
Now, the gifts really start to get a little more fun as babies are more interested in toys and imaginative play. This Christmas, Ruby fits right in the middle of this stage.
We’re still not sure what we’re gifting her. So far we’ve talked about building a train table and scouting a playhouse or playset on craigslist. And she loves chairs and tables her size, so we definitely need to get her a set for her room.I also think she’d really like Tegu Toys, magnetic wooden blocks that are beautiful and fun.
Currently at this stage Ruby’s favorite toys are her play kitchen, little tikes car, pull train, and horse stable. She’s love imitating anything that we do, as well as using her fine motor skills.
gift ideas for the toddlers | 2-3 years
Even though they continue to play with the same toys, toddlers grow quite a bit from ages one to two. Most of that comes with the ability to really play on their own and pretend. Since we like to think ahead, I already have some of these items on Ruby’s Christmas list.
Another good idea for older toddlers are art activities. Get them some crayons, paints, and an easel. I can’t wait to have an art time during the day. Oh, and tea parties!!
I hope that this was helpful and gives you some ideas on how to love the little ones in your life. There are endless gifts that you can give them, but remember that little ones might not understand gifts, or your love in giving them. Make sure that you demonstrate that by your time with your favorite kiddos.
We have a lot of good options, but we’re still not sure what we’re going to get Ruby! Do you have any ideas?
