We love to travel, and while we thought we had quite a bit figured out, we learned a lot from traveling around Europe for 16 days. Thankfully, we started our trip with some solid experience from trips around the U.S., however, there were quite a few that we learned along the way. I shared a few of the best ones here, and hopefully they’ll help prepare you for your next adventure.
Here are our very best travel tips:

1 Travel
Just get out there, explore. Traveling isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it.
2 Get a ride to and from the airport
It’s worth it to save some time and energy and pay the extra to take a taxi or other car service to the airport. This was the tip we really should have just implemented from the beginning. Dragging all of your luggage through the metro and streets just isn’t saving a few bucks. By the end of the trip, we had used Uber, Tinker Taxi, and Abel. We loved scheduling our rides and it was a good opportunity to talk to a local.
3 Quality luggage pays off
We needed new luggage and I instantly thought of Away. First off, their luggage is just beautiful. I love the original green, which is classic, but stands out against all of the black luggage in the carousel. This carry-on also holds up and steps up the game with cool features like a built-in phone charger and creative organization.
We put our new carry-on to the test, three different countries, plains, trains, metros, and cobblestone streets. Oh, and I can’t forget a toddler as well. Jordan also picked up a very cheap, large suitcase before the trip and it did not stand up to our tests.
Away offers the most affordable luggage I’ve seen that offers this quality and innovative features.
4 Bring good snacks in your carry-on
If you didn’t know that you can bring snacks with you on your carry-on, you do now. We like to bring snacks like almonds, popcorn, and fruit leathers. We brought enough that we had some snacks that lasted most of our trip!
5 Don’t miss your flight
Especially if it’s in international flight, just don’t do it. And use tip no. 2 and get there on time.
6 Make the most of every situation
Traveling is not the time to dwell on bad situations (such as a missed flight). It takes a lot of effort to travel to new places so make the most of every opportunity. We haven’t always done this well in the past, but I was very proud of how our family improved in this area. When we missed our flight, we all rallied and the rest of the trip went great.
By the end of this trip Ruby had completely taken over our Away carry-on. It glided so smoothly that she was able to effortlessly push it around the airport.
Hopefully these tips help you and we’re excited to share more about our trip in the coming weeks.
